Julia Ioffe with The New Republic has come out and said straight up that Merkel was right: Putin's lost his mind at this press conference. Globe and Mail's Doug Saunders described the piece as "Shakespeare's Richard III as performed with the dramatic stylings of Vladimir I. Putin, transcribed by @juliaioffe."
Ioffe isn't the only journalist speaking out. Russia Today's Abby Martin ended yesterday's episode of Breaking the Set with a monolog on her personal views toward Russia and Ukrainian sovereignty. BBC's Joe Miller reacted, "Golly - brave move by RT presenter. Her 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore' moment." New York Times' Robert Mackey remained skeptical, tweeting, "Though she's also a 9/11 Truther."
RT also livestreamed Putin's presser, and were the only ones to stick with it after even Al Jazeera and others had cut away. "Fascinated by the format of the #Putin presser. Why sitting?" wondered Glenda Kwek with the Sydney Morning Herald.
And for anyone still secretly struggling to keep up with this conversation, here's 10 handy phrases for bluffing your way through the Ukraine crisis. "Who amongst us hasn't used at least 4," asked David Firn with the Financial Times.
