The Awl poaches two for editor roles

The Awl has lured two journalists away from their current publications: Matt Buchanan (left) from The New Yorker and John Herrman (below, at right) from Buzzfeed. While Buchanan is deputy editor of TNY's online science and tech sections and Herrman is Buzzfeed's tech editor, the two already know each other well: they both worked at Buzzfeed's tech vertical FWD before Buchanan left. No word yet on what their specific positions will be, but rumor has it they'll both assume editor roles of some kind.

Although both were quiet about their respective moves on Twitter, no one else was.

Grist's Jess Zimmerman lamented, "Aw I missed this news about @mattbuchanan and @jwherrman's epic bromance eloping to the Awl, congrats guys."

WSJ's Tom Gara called it a "[p]retty miraculous pair of hires."

Meanwhile, Emma Carmichael at The Hairpin referenced Buchanan and Herrman's similar copper tresses, wondering, "Where is the ginger emoji?"
