Tragedy strikes SXSW
The festivities in Austin, Texas were disrupted when a car plowed into a crowd outside nightclub at SXSW, leaving two dead, five in critical condition, and at least 20 injured, we learn from USA Today. At WDSU New Orleans, Aretha Frison elaborated, "Man and woman killed after drunken driver fleeing arrest crashes through barricades at #SXSW." The Statesman also had that story, and at the Washington Post J duLac shared some details from that post: “'I was thrown up in the sky.' Horrific scene at SXSW: 2 dead, 23 injured by driver attempting to evade DUI stop." With the Texas Monthly, Jordan Breal revealed, "Sad and angry to wake up to this news ... Thoughts & prayers to the victims' families & to those injured."
The Associated Press was also on the case, and so was the LA Times. At the LAT, Matt Pearce called their own piece "[a] really harrowing account of the tragedy in Austin, Texas, last night at #sxsw ... Totally senseless." The driver -- who was pursued, tasered and arrested -- now faces two counts of capital murder.
