Meanderings from the media

Mar 27, 2014

Felix Salmon at Reuters recently penned a popular diatribe against something unusual: beautiful journalism. Salmon writes, "Every article has a nice big headline, huge photos, loads of white space, intuitive and immersive scrolling, super-wide column widths - everything you need to make the copy truly sing. I'm over it. Part of this is because I have a long-standing soft spot for ugly." Davin O'Dwyer called it, "Great read by @felixsalmon on merits of ugly journalism, or, basically, newspaper design."

And speaking of beautiful journalism, here's the latest lede that people are calling the "Best opening line in an article. Ever." (And the award for that, by the way, goes to The TimesTom Whipple.

In a similar vein, here's a compilation of the best internet reactions to Facebook devouring Oculus, c/o Wired's Laura Hudson. For Business Insider's Jillian D'Onfro, one in particular stood out among the rest: "Aaaaand this is my favorite of the many FB / Oculus memes."
