Tragedy in Afghanistan

There’s terrible news from the AP that one of their photographers was killed and a reporter was wounded in Afghanistan. George Bennett at the Palm Beach Post elaborated, “Afghan cop ‘yelled 'Allahu Akbar'- God is Great - and opened fire.’”

At the New York Times, Matthew Rosenberg wrote Journalist Killed by Afghan Policeman. Andrew Schneider with KUHF pointed out: “@AP's Anja Niedringhaus 3rd reporter killed in #Afghanistan in 4 weeks, joining Sardar Ahmad, Nils Horner. #RIP.”

Vijay Prashad shared his favorite photo of Niedringhaus’s. He added: “Let them give you a camera in the afterlife.”

Of another photo, Ben C. Solomon said: “Today, The New York Times used Anja Niedringhaus's photo on the front page. A feat she will never see.”

You can see Notable pphotojournalism by Anja Niedringhaus of the Afghanistan election.

For more of her photos, the AP put together a collection called From the eye of Anja Niedringhaus.

They also encourage you to look through her most recent photo essay: Afghan women lawmakers fight for rights.

The Atlantic has a collection of Afghanistan: Seen Through the Lens of Anja Niedringhaus. Ian Johnson with the New York Times added, “This is a better link for photos of Anja's work.”

And if you have time, take a look through the photos on Anja Niedringhaus’s personal website. They’re truly remarkable. Neeha Curtis from Fox 4 Dallas tweeted: “Heart breaking for family and friends of Anja Niedringhaus. She's brought the world great work and it lives on.”
