Journalist kidnapped in Ukraine

Apr 23, 2014

The Daily Beast reports that Putin's Men in Ukraine Seize U.S. Journalist Simon Ostrovsky, claiming that under the "laws of war" they had the right. Tim Mak from the Washington Examiner added: “OH: Vice reporter not kidnapped, he was just reporting in "incorrect way" & is now working with intelligence service.” John Hudson at Foreign Policy Magazine called that “...basically a badge of honor.” Brett LoGiurato with Business Insider added, “‘Nobody is holding him hostage,’ he’s just not allowed to leave or go anywhere for a while.” Brian Ries at Mashable pointed out: “Pro-Russian militia in Sloviansk admit it: we specifically targeted @vice’s @SimonOstrovsky for kidnapping.”

Over at Time Magazine Matt McAllester writes that while VICE journalist is held by separatists, TIME reporter was released. McAllester said, “TIME, VICE reporters detained by separatists. TIME reporter and 3 others released. VICE journalist still held.” Miriam Elder from BuzzFeed added, “The thugs took @shustry and others too before releasing them and holding on to@SimonOstrovsky, who remains kidnapped.”
