Why we (should) care about the girls in Nigeria

First up, CNN posted 6 reasons why the world should demand action on the 276 Nigerian girls who were recently kidnapped. "Why should the abduction of Nigerian schoolgirls matter to you?" the article asked. NBC Bay Area's George Kiriyama plucked out a quote that spoke to him: "'We can't let this be the new normal.' ---Emeka Daniel, his father was kidnapped in Nigeria in an unrelated incident." GigaOM's David Meyer  bristled a bit at the wording, however, commenting, "Really not the best way to introduce an explainer on this."

In the meantime, Mashable's Brian Ries elucidates exactly why the world is finally talking about Nigeria's kidnapped girls. Ries added on Twitter, "The one-millionth mention of the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls will likely come early this week — possibly today."
