Aftermath of a shake-up

The New Yorker delves into “the gossipy world of New York journalism” to figure out What Went Wrong with Jill Abramson and the New York Times? Megan Greenwell at ESPN tweeted: “Her salary as Washington bureau chief was 100K less than that of her successor in that position.” Jamie Tarabay from Al Jazeera said, “So @JillAbramson complained TWICE and still got paid less than her predecessor. @kenauletta has the numbers.”

The Guardian writes that Jill Abramson's ouster shows women that we still must be more than good. Jen Connic at NJ.com tweeted; “.@emilybell on the inbalance of expectations of women in journalism. We can't just be good at our jobs.” Freelancer Paula Derrow called the whole thing: “Depressingly insightful.”

The Washington Post followed this up with a look at Dean Baquet, from New Orleans reporter to executive editor of the New York Times. Brady Dennis there tweeted this quote from the story: "There was a bullet in the barroom wall. And the kid reporter had to have it." Lisa Fung from TheWrap.com called it a “Good read.”

If you’re wondering what Abramson has been up to since Wednesday, there’s this Instagram photo her daughter took showing “Mom's badass new hobby.” It’s in a boxing gym and the former executive editor looks awesome! Edward Hart said, “Jill Abramson is such an unapologetic badass.” The TODAY show tweeted: “Former @NYTimes executive editor Jill Abramson pulls no punches in her daughter's Instagram pic.”
