Buzzfeed: A look behind the cute cat gifs
Speaking of Buzzfeed, Dylan Matthews with Vox reveals that Buzzfeed's founder used to write Marxist theory and it explains Buzzfeed perfectly. Alternatively titled by New York Magazine's Kevin Roose as "11 Times the Bourgeoisie Was Soooo Basic." NYT's Michael Roston liked this part: "When I reached out yesterday...he simply replied, 'lol,'" then tweeted Buzzfeed founder Jonah Peretti directly: "good job @peretti." At Buzzfeed itself, Adrian Carrasquillo also addressed Peretti, advising, "it would be cool if 'capitalism's exterminating angel' was in your twitter bio."
Sure, why not.
Relatedly, at Poynter, Andrew Beaujon has busied himself answering something that must have occurred to all of us: How much does BuzzFeed write about cats, anyway? Also with Buzzfeed, McKay Coppins gave away the mystery by tweeting, "Since 2012 BuzzFeed has published 12200 cat posts & 7900 politics stories. Not counting business, tech, longform etc." Bloomberg's Indira Lakshmanan grumped, "Blatant species bias vs dogs." Smells like an investigative follow-up to us!
