Digital leader Pilhofer leaves NYT for new Guardian position

May 22, 2014

The Guardian will soon welcome Aron Pilhofer, who joins in June in the newly minted position of executive editor for digital. It should be a good fit for Pilhofer, who's currently the associate managing editor for digital strategy at The New York Times.

"Congratulations on your well-deserved new job at @Guardian," NYT's Rajiv Pant tweeted him. "It has been a pleasure working closely with you. Keep in touch."

"Wow, thanks for all the kind words!" Pilhofer responded to congratulatory tweets. "Very sad to leave the NYT, but excited to join @janinegibson and the crew in London."

Pilhofer has garnered a reputation with the Times as a pioneer and leader in digital strategy since he first joined the Grey Lady in 2005, when he brought his experience as an interactive news editor and in computer-assisted reporting to the table.

Journalist Jay Rosen observed, "Speaker as a clueless outsider, I say no one did more for culture change at the Times than @pilhofer, now leaving."
