Featured journalist: Sharon Machlis

Today's featured journalist is Sharon Machlis, Online Managing Editor with Computerworld, an award-winning tech site serving more than 3 million monthly visitors. Impressively, Machlis was an online content pioneer since before the World Wide Web, with a strong career interest in the intersection of journalism and technology. She has worked on data projects such as mapping tens of thousands of tech visa holders and coding an interactive database of cellphone radiation levels. She also helped lead Computerworld's transition from a print-centered to Web-focused editorial team.

But Machlis began her career as a reporter, technology columnist, and business editor at the Middlesex News, a daily newspaper in Framingham, MA (now the MetroWest Daily News). While there, she set up "one of the earliest online transmissions of news from a newspaper to its readers" in 1987 (see Fred the Computer!). Be sure to follow Sharon on Twitter @sharon000 or Google+, "like" her Facebook page, subscribe to her RSS feed, and of course, check out her Muck Rack portfolio!
