Featured journalist: Daniel Tedford
Today we are pleased to introduce to you Daniel Tedford, digital news director with The Los Angeles News Group, which is comprised of the Los Angeles Daily News, Torrance Daily Breeze, Long Beach Press-Telegram, San Bernardino Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Pasadena Star-News, Whittier Daily News and the Redlands Daily Facts. Whew! This means Tedford works with all levels of journalists from nine different newsrooms in Southern California, helping them cover live news, work with data and plan enterprise projects for a digital audience. He got his start, however, as a news assistant for the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa, mostly because he hoped "to do something that mattered that I was also good at." In his digital expert opinion, Tedford says social media is changing journalism because "[n]ews has become a conversation - the audience is engaged, immediate, and willing to do some of the work." Check out his Muck Rack portfolio here, showcasing some of his latest including "Azusa's lost neighborhood of Atlantis" and "Where, when California shark attacks have happened over time" (49 social shares).
