Layoffs and losses

BBC News makes the sad announcement that they will cut a further 415 jobs (garnering 70 shares). The Guardian adds that the cut is made as the organization restructures for digital (312 shares). "Anyone hiring?" BBC producer Rickin Majithia wondered. "What price democracy and truth telling?" freelance journalist Matthew Wall asked rather pointedly.

And speaking of layoffs, numerous publications are covering the story that the ax falls at Microsoft as company prepares to cut 18,000 jobs. Here's the memo from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on "starting to evolve our organization and culture" (837 shares). "A big day for Microsoft. A very bad day to be a Nokia employee," commented Emily Parkhurst with Puget Sound Business Journal.
