Featured journalist: Carson Vaughan

Today we are excited to feature a freelance journalist: Carson Vaughan, an independent reporter currently based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Covering everything from arts and entertainment to science to politics, Vaughan has been published in The New York Times, Salon, National Geographic, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, the Lincoln Journal Star, and others. He has also published fiction in The Saturday Evening Post, Midwestern Gothic and Bluestem Magazine. Vaughan prefers to be pitched "briefly" "casually" and on Sunday nights, and feels social media has changed journalism in that "it has opened the door to more opportunities, especially for freelance journalists. On the other hand: byebye investigative news." Don't forget to check out his Muck Rack portfolio, which showcases posts such as his recent New York Times post "Twin Tornadoes Leave Behind a Devastated Nebraska Town" (1,486 shares) and, for Salon, "Unsafe for execution?" (276 shares).

Remember: If you also want to be featured here, you should 1) set up your own journalist portfolio 2) get verified and 3) let us know by emailing Kirsten.
