A tense tango between Ukraine and Russia

Sep 03, 2014

Early this morning, the Ukrainian president's office announced a lasting cease-fire with Russia, only to retract its claim hours later, the New York Times reports (3,032 shares). President Petro O. Poroshenko of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin of Russia have "a similar understanding" about what a cease-fire will require, but "went too far in describing the results of a telephone call between the two leaders," the article reads. Or as Buzzfeed foreign affairs reporter Max Seddon puts it, "Ukraine learns the difficulty of ending a war with someone who's pretending not to fight you." Stay tune for rolling developments in this story.
