Caldwell departs CNN for NBC News

NBC News announces a new addition to their Washington team: Leigh Ann Caldwell joins as a political reporter based at NBC's DC bureau. Most recently with CNN, Caldwell served as a political reporter and producer there as well.

"So long @CNN and @CNNPolitics it's been great," she tweeted, later revealing, "But I'm also really excited for what's next .... And this is what's next."

"We are going to miss you so much too!" digital producer Eric Weisbrod responded.

Caldwell is smart to move on just in the nick of time: this week it was revealed that CNN will cut yet another 300 positions through a blend of buyouts and layoffs. Even for journalists who survive this next painful bout of job cuts, times will undoubtedly be tougher at the network.

"Congrats @LACaldwellDC for surviving a rough 18 months. NBC is lucky to get you. Here's hoping they treat you a heck of a lot better!" freelance journalist Jennifer Liberto tweeted.

We wish Caldwell the very best in her newsroom.
