Taibbi takes his leave of First Look Media

Causing quite the stir on Twitter, First Look Media just confirmed that Matt Taibbi has left the company after rumors swirled he had vanished from its New York headquarters. Taibbi originally was hired to launch a satirical website that would have been "the second in an envisioned fleet of titles" conceived by FLM, joining Glenn Greenwald's The Intercept.

"Matt Taibbi has left First Look Media. Sorry to see him go. A great talent and we wish him well," First Look founder Pierre Omidyar revealed on Twitter, sharing this announcement.

"Pierre announces Matt Taibbi’s departure from First Look. Truly unfortunate; was looking forward to working with him," admits FLM's Andy Carvin.

Guardian's Dan Gillmor puts it another way: "Hey journalism orgs: @mtaibbi, one of the best chroniclers of Wall Street's bankster culture, is now available."

Compounding the mystery, PandoDaily's Paul Carr published what he says is his side of correspondence with Taibbi.

The only statement Taibbi has made on Twitter was this response to Carr's post: "Off the record does not mean you can publish your half of a conversation with a source." He might have you there, Paul.
