The Intercept loses EIC as John Cook returns to Gawker

This one broke just a bit ago, so it won't be in our career updates section: it's been confirmed by Poynter and elsewhere that The Intercept is losing its editor-in-chief, John Cook. Vanity Fair's Sarah Ellison was the first to tweet that news (and collected quite a few followers in the process) that Cook departs First Look Media to return to Gawker to "run investigations," Andrew Beaujon reports. As colleague Ben Mullin observed, this leaves us all repeatedly refreshing the First Look Media blog for an official announcement. As of this moment, Cook has been mum on Twitter, too. "I guess Gawker didn’t have too many Cooks," Today in Tabs' Rusty Foster jokes. Expect more in tomorrow's Daily, probably.
