NPR's Thompson heads to The Atlantic

The Atlantic welcomes Matt Thompson as deputy editor for TheAtlantic.com. Currently NPR's Director of Vertical Initiatives, Thompson will work with The Atlantic site’s editor J.J. Gould to manage editorial operations and audience growth.

"It's true. I'm leaving one of my very favorite places (@NPR) for one of my very favorite places (@TheAtlantic)," Thompson tweets.

"It's a major, major coup for @TheAtlantic to have snagged @mthomps from NPR. He's gonna kill it there, as everywhere," predicts Washington Post's Adam B. Kushner.

Heralding the appointment, The Atlantic's Ta-Nehisi Coates invokes the Wu-Tang Clan while tweeting, "Incredibly proud to see @mthomps joining @TheAtlantic. '36 more chambers, we take you through'."
