BuzzFeed anoints new science editor

BuzzFeed News is launching a new health and science desk, and Virginia Hughes will lead the team as science editor. Hughes currently serves as a contributing editor for Popular Science and Matter as well as authors National Geographic's Only Human blog.

"The future of science journalism just got a lot brighter. Bravo @BuzzFeed and mazel tov @virginiahughes," tweets freelance journalist Steve Silberman.

"Am beside myself with happiness for @virginiahughes & all of sci/med journalism," echoes science and medicine writer David J. Kroll.

At Mother JonesPatrick Caldwell couldn't resist adding, "As TNR supposedly moves toward ‘Buzzfeed,’ actual Buzzfeed continues to invest in reporting."

Looking forward to what Hughes does for the 'Feed's newsy side.
