Crowley departs CNN after 27 years

CNN's veteran broadcaster Candy Crowley is leaving the network after 27 years of work on the politics beat. In addition to serving as political correspondent and host of CNN's State of the Union, Crowley is a decorated journalist who has received just about every award a reporter could aspire to win. Needless to say, Media Twitter was in shock.

"God this week sucks," laments Politico's Ben White.

"Say it ain't so, @crowleyCNN@CNN won't be the same without you. Remember our date Ohio Primary Night 2008?" asks Glenn McEntyre with 10TV Columbus.

Meanwhile, CNN's chief congressional correspondent Dana Bash writes that Crowley represents "the soul" of their network.

"Thank you, Candy. An amazing Washington career we should all aspire to," CNBC's Eamon Javers reflects.

So far, Crowley has not tweeted about her departure from CNN; her only remark since the news broke is this joke on yesterday's SOTU about Texas's twin Castro brothers: "Honestly, it's not THAT hard to tell them apart."

We'll miss that dry humor on CNN.
