LA Times veteran Rainey joins Variety

Jan 05, 2015

Veteran journalist Jim Rainey is leaving the LA Times after nearly three decades there as a reporter, editor, columnist and then blogger. Rainey now joins Variety as a senior film reporter.

"Big News: I'm leaving @latimes after 29 years for great new opportunity at @Variety," Rainey tweets.

"Big loss for us. Congrats Jim," reacts colleague Steve Zeitchik.

"So, so excited about our awesome new hire!" shares co-editor-in-chief Claudia Eller, to whom Rainey will report.

Deputy editor for news and film Pat Saperstein notes, "Finally reuniting the Samohi staff!"

"We were on high school paper together," Rainey explains to everyone else.
