NYT adds metro political correspondent

The New York Times welcomes Alexander Burns as Metro political correspondent at the very beginning of next month. Burns joins the Times from Politico, where he's been since 2008 when he first graduated and served most recently as senior political reporter.

"I couldn't be more grateful to the Times for this opportunity. It's an absolute dream job–can't wait to get started," he tweets, adding, "It's such a privilege to be a joining the incredible @NYTMetro team – and on a day like this!"

"Also grateful: your new colleagues," responds The Upshot editor David Leonhardt

Adam Nagourney with the Times shares, "First thing @alexanderiburns said when he met me yrs ago: 'You went to college with my parents.' Is there a shoot-me-now emoticon?" (This guy suggests this.)
