BuzzFeed UK names LGBT editor

The latest in Buzzfeed UK's staffing spree: they've just named Patrick Strudwick editor for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) stories. Strudwick was most recently a freelance journalist for publications across Britain, contributing to The Guardian, The Independent and others on subjects that range from politics to pop culture.

"I'm delighted to announce that I have accepted the new role of LGBT Editor of @BuzzFeedUK. Here are the details," Strudwick tweets, later adding, Can't keep up with the incredible response but thank you so much for all the kind messages about my news. I'm tickled pink" punctuated by the hashtag #gayimagery.

Guardian columnist Ellie Mae O'Hagan reacts, "*SCREAM* My wonderful friend @PatrickStrud is the new LGBT editor of @BuzzFeedUK. GOOD HIRE, BUZZFEED. GOOD HIRE."

Also at the Guardian, James Ball muses, "Beginning to think 'who has joined buzzfeed today' should just be a regular tag for most media sites."

Similarly, freelance journalist Jack Seale reflects, "Buzzfeed's drive to hire literally everyone I follow on Twitter continues apace: congrats @PatrickStrud, new LGBT ed."

Best of all, here is Strudwick's latest promise: "I do hope the bigots, haters, and homophobes of the world are ready. I'm coming for you. Virally."
