NYT Mag plucks up TNR's Julia Ioffe

Jan 27, 2015

Here's one of the more anticipated gets: New York Times Magazine will be the next home for Julia Ioffe, formerly of The New Republic. Previously a senior editor at TNR, Ioffe joins NYT Mag as a contributing writer on foreign affairs (with a special focus on Russia again, it seems safe to presume).

"True (and exciting): the brilliant @juliaioffe will be a contributing writer for @NYTmag. 1st order of biz: what's w/ this Russian weather?" jokes editor-in-chief Jake Silverstein.

"In a coup for them, @NYTmag nabs @juliaioffe, who you should all be following for Russia analysis and much else," recommends Tablet Magazine's Yair Rosenberg, sharing the Politico link that scooped the hire.

Former TNR colleague Hillary Kelly seemed happy for her onetime workmate, too, tweeting, "@JuliaIoffe is going to @NYTmag which means the world again is a wonderful place, full of Ioffe writing and Ioffe wit. Huzzah!"
