WP poaches from The Root, City Paper

The Washington Post has snared Mike Madden as deputy editor and David Swerdlick as assistant editor of Outlook and Post Everything. Madden is currently the editor of Washington City Paper while Swerdlick joins from The Root, where he has most recently served as associate editor overseeing opinions and features while also writing on politics. Madden starts March 30 while Swerdlick begins April 6.

"Sad to leave @wcp, but thrilled to join @PostOutlook and the only paper I've been reading longer than City Paper ... Also: If you're interested in one of journalism's best jobs (editing @wcp), contact @aaustin pronto," Madden tweets, later adding, "Congratulations to @Swerdlick, who I'm looking forward to working with on @PostOutlook and @WaPoThing."

"Congratulations to you, as well, @MikeMadden. Looking forward to it," Swerdlick responds.

"Delighted to welcome @Swerdlick and @MikeMadden into the fold. One heck of a day around here," reflects managing editor Emilio Garcia-Ruiz.
