New York Magazine anoints book critic

Mar 18, 2015

Christian Lorentzen is the new book critic at New York Magazine as well as its entertainment site Most recently a senior editor with the London Review of Books, in his new role Lorentzen will write reviews as well as longer assessments and and shorter commentary on literature. He will also remain an editor-at-large at London Review.

"Thanks to all have expressed concern about my deportation from the UK. In fact it was not forced, and I will have to come back a bit," Lorentzen humorously announces.

Vanity Fair's James Wolcott jokingly reacts, "Congratulations to @xlorentzen on his new job as book critic of New York mag. Let the reign of terror begin! Um, let me rephrase that..." Wolcott later adds, "That is, Let the age of neo-enlightenment begin!"

From Kabul, Matthieu Aikins chimes in, "Visits back to New York just got a lot more decadent. Congrats @xlorentzen."
