Longtime Phoenix anchor signs off

Apr 02, 2015

Longtime 12 News Phoenix anchor Lin Sue Cooney is leaving news to work as an executive in hospice care. After more than 30 years with the station, Cooney made the news during last night's April 1 broadcast, but it was no prank.

"I WILL HAVE SOME BREAKING NEWS, THAT IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE, COMING UP AT 6 PM. JUST WANT TO GIVE FRIENDS & FAMILY A HEAD'S UP. XOXO," Cooney teased the news on Twitter, before later uploading a video of the broadcast with the accompanying tweet, "Ok, here's my big news."

"So proud to say I worked with you!" responds meteorologist Jerrid Sebesta, now with BringMeTheNews.

"She's been the face of TV news in AZ longer than I've been alive," notes The Oregonian's Gina Mizell.

In conclusion, Cooney tweets, "The time has come to close one chapter... and open another... and I couldn't be more excited. It's been a great run!"
