Hoax hunter to lead BuzzFeed Canada

Craig Silverman, award-winning critic of media errors and founder of real-time rumor tracker Emergent.info, is now editor of BuzzFeed Canada. Silverman will lead a small team of reporters in Toronto and Ottawa as part of its expansion into Canada, its seventh international territory.

As the news dropped this morning, Globe and Mail media writer Simon Houpt urged, "Share this! BuzzFeed hires @CraigSilverman as editor of its new @buzzfeedcanada operations," which Silverman retweeted and added, "Never heard of him."

"Ok fine @CraigSilverman you can come on my show now," relents Canadaland's Jesse Brown.

"Going to apply for the political editor or social news editor job at @BuzzFeedCanada ? I suggest you do so very soon," Silverman advises, adding that "BTW up until now everything @BuzzFeedCanada is the work of @Tanya_Chen. A CDN at BuzzFeed who’s coming back home to help run the site."

"I take all the credit," shrugs Tanya Chen, who currently serves as a senior editor there.

As for the future of Emergent, Silverman explains, "The work of Emergent is coming with, but site will not be updated any more. Examining options for how tech can live on."
