Grantland gets interim EIC

ESPN has handed sports journalist Chris Connelly the daunting task of succeeding Bill Simmons as the interim editor of Grantland, the sports commentary site Simmons founded four years ago. The move comes just two weeks after Simmons left ESPN and Grantland, due to editorial differences. Connelly will continue in his role as a contributor to ABC News.

"Excited to be joining @grantland33 as interim editor-in-chief. Hoping to continue the great work of Bill Simmons and this superb staff," he tweets.

"Smart choice by @ESPN 2 steady @Grantland33 ship. They name respected @ChrisConnelly interim editor-in-chief after @BillSimmons departure," reacts sports writer Michael McCarthy.

Steven Ward with the Clarion-Ledger chimes in, "From @RollingStone phone operator to Premiere film mag editor to @Grantland33 EIC. Congrats @ChrisConnelly Great hire!"
