Gawker appoints new lead editors
In the wake of the recent resignations by Tommy Craggs and Max Read, there are some top positions to fill at Gawker. John Cook succeeds Craggs as executive editor for now; most recently executive editor for investigations there, Cook will participate in the search for a more permanent exec editor as well as a new editor in chief. In the meantime, Leah Beckmann has temporarily replaced Read as editor in chief while Hamilton Nolan succeeds Beckmann as deputy editor. Nolan most recently was senior writer there.
Cook made it very clear on Twitter that he is the "ACTING" exec editor at the moment, although as former Village Voice journalist Ward Harkavy points out, "That's how Dick Cheney became veep: He headed the search committee to pick a veep."
