The media and tech beats
As you might have surmised from last week's tumult, big cuts are dreaded at the LA Times and very likely other Tribune papers, as well. "80 jobs cuts at @latimes? & more slashing @chicagotribune & elsewhere?" reacts WaPo's Joe Stephens. Hard to say which was more disturbing to read: that article, or the comment section accompanying it. Baltimore Sun's Kalani Gordon suggests, "if you work in news, read the comments and then slam your head into your desk."
Something big and breaking in tech: you can now make political donations via tweet, thanks to a new partnership between Twitter and Square. "Some personal news: I'm officially running for president," jokes Wall Street Journal's Adam Janofsky. Also tech-relevant, John Paczkowski spends 20 minutes with Tim Cook and crams a lot in. And at the Guardian, Tom Clark offers up four reasons Jeremy Corbyn needs a spin doctor: "The missing ingredient in Jezza's 'honest, straight-talking politics'? I fear it's spin," Clark admits.
