The Huffington Post has named Liz Heron its newest executive editor. Previously Facebook's head of news partnerships, it represents a return to news for Heron, who once worked social at both the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.
"I've long been an admirer of The Huffington Post and its visionary founder, Arianna, who pioneered much of what defines digital media today. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to help take HuffPost to the next level both as a media innovator and supporter of high-impact journalism -- in the U.S. and increasingly around the world," Heron posts to Facebook. "What a privilege to play my part during such a consequential time for Facebook & news. Expect that momentum to grow," she adds.
"HuffPost found a good one in @lheron as it seeks to expand its content outside the destination website," praises Mashable's Brian Ries.
Heron concludes, "I'm a big believer in news meeting you where you spend your time, so I'm looking forward to working closely with Facebook, Instagram and other partners in my new role at Huff Post." Looks like a smart strategy to us.
