Monday on our minds

"THIS WEEK'S COVER: LeBron James kept his promise to Cleveland," trumpets the Sports Illustrated account, sharing Lee Jenkins masterpiece summarizing "the story of LeBron's Finals, and a vision come to life" (at 6,000+ shares right now). "I've been on the verge of tears a half dozen times today. Euphoria is over. Serene satisfaction is sinking in," realizes STAT's Dylan Scott. "These last two LeBron games, post baby bottles, remind me of a Blazing Saddles line: 'If you shoot him, you'll just make him mad,'" Jenkins tweets. And it did look as if King James converted all of the drama, including the crotch shot from Warriors forward Draymond Green and  the jab from Klay Thompson about feelings being hurt, into pure tenacity on the court: he was unanimously named Finals MVP for the third time, averaging 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists with an effective field goal percentage of 53.3. And back home, the city celebrated. Thirteen years after LeBron first vowed to light up Cleveland like Las Vegas, Sunday night the city that people once jeered as "the mistake on the lake" was lit up indeed.

Back to reality (which, let's be honest, means back to politics): Donald Trump finally parted ways with his controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, which was swiftly followed by the resignation of Trump's adviser Michael Caputo after he mocked Lewandowski on Twitter. At Fox Business, Charlie Gasparino marvels, "when I saw his tweet I was blown away so was trump apparently." New York Magazine theorizes that it was actually the Trump kids who ousted Lewandowski. "Lewandowski's firing totally sounds like Apprentice episode. He was grilled by Trump children, gave wrong answer," reports Gabriel Sherman. At GQOlivia Nuzzi produced a beauteous profile on Hope Hicks, Donald Trump's mystifying and suprisingly quiet PR woman, in which we learn from Nuzzi that Trump "begins each day by reading 30-50 of the top Google News results for his name, printed out and handed to him."
