Featured journalist: Jessica Bryce Young

Aug 12, 2016

Today's spotlight falls on Jessica Bryce Young, editor-in-chief of the Orlando Weekly and self-described "work horse, not show horse." Young covers culture, art, theater, books, food and drink, film, and music. What she doesn't cover? Hot takes. And we can respect that. Her favorite fictional journalists involve a three-way tie between Lou Grant, Hildy Johnson and Harriet M. Welsch, which we can respect. Also, if you stop by her Muck Rack portfolio here, you'll find a sampling of her excellent work -- and we advise you start with her thoughts on the events of June 12, 2016: "To the millions who live here year-round, this is a place of stunning and fragile natural beauty that must be protected. And to the thousands who move here each year, Orlando is a place to come out. Not just as gay, though that is true for many because of the welcoming and thriving LGBT community, but as themselves. They come here to be surrounded by light and positivity, to write the stories of their lives, and 49 of those stories will never be fully written now." Well said.

Remember: If you also want to be featured, you should 1) set up your own journalist portfolio 2) get verified and 3) let us know by emailing Kirsten.
