Notes from the "reckoning"

The USA Today Network and its parent company Gannett have announced nationwide job cuts across newsrooms. Here are six of the most recent journalists to say farewell to the media conglomerate, including four Washington reporters and likely victims of what the Times' Jim Rutenberg calls a post-election "reckoning":

Rem Reider, media columnist and editor at large

Thomas Frank, investigative reporter since 2004

Craig Schwed, Washington Assistant Managing Editor

Val Ellicott, Washington editor

Brian Tumulty, Washington correspondent, Gannett

Christopher Doering, Washington correspondent, Gannett's Des Moines Register

Elsewhere, Bess Levin has left the Dealbreaker to join Vanity Fair's The Hive.
