CNN, BuzzFeed, Wall Street Journal add reporters; UN selects Smale for top PIO post

Aug 10, 2017

Hadas Gold, who has spent the last 15 years at POLITICO, is joining CNN’s DC bureau as a reporter focused on European politics, media and business.

Davey Alba, who has been a staff writer at WIRED since 2014, is joining BuzzFeed, where she will be a senior technology reporter. Also joining Buzzfeed is Kevin Collier, who will be covering cybersecurity, privacy and national security as a cybersecurity correspondent. He was most recently a senior privacy and security reporter with Vocativ.

Natasha Khan has joined The Wall Street Journal’s corporate team in Asia as a reporter in Hong Kong. She comes to the WSJ from Bloomberg News, where she was part of the team that produced the George Polk award-winning investigation in 2012 that revealed the hidden wealth of China’s ruling elite.

And congratulations to veteran New York Times journalist Alison Smale, who has been named the United Nations' next under secretary general for global communications, the most senior official in charge of shaping the 193-member organization’s global public image. "Great news for my former colleague and friend @asmalenyt moving to top UN PIO. Journalism's loss = world's gain," tweets Maud Beelman.
