In regard to recruiting new members for American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars groups [Groups are recruiting younger veterans, May 31] I can attest it's a challenge and I commend northwest Iowa's legion efforts. As Post Chaplain of American Legion Post 656 in Farley, I can say that membership decline never rests.
I know who should be person of the year. He's a model neighbor, father and spouse. He shines light on unsung public servants, teachers, volunteers and activists, allies and opponents alike. He's a champion for the underfed, underhoused and underpaid. He's an advocate for working people, immigrants and the least fortunate.
