"Effects of fire on kangaroo rats in the San Joaquin Desert of Californ" by David J. Germano, Lawrence R. Saslaw et al.
Abstract Fire can alter ecological communities, particularly those that are not fire-adapted, such as desert communities. We examined the effects of fire on rodent communities in the San Joaquin Desert of central California. Of particular interest were the effects on kangaroo rats (Dipodomys spp.) including 2 rare species, the giant kangaroo rat (D. ingens) and the short-nosed kangaroo rat (D. nitratoides brevinasus).
Are shrubs a necessary component of the habitat for Ammospermophilus nelsoni in the San Joaquin Desert?
Abstract The San Joaquin antelope squirrel (Ammospermophilus nelsoni; SJAS) is a state-listed Threatened species in California that evolved in the shrublands of the San Joaquin Desert. Due to livestock overgrazing and fires, much of the desert has lost its shrub cover, which would be a conservation concern if shrubs are a necessary component of the habitat for squirrels.

(Illustration by Helena Pallarés) Rethinking how universities, nonprofits, and training institutes educate the next generation of social innovators is both a responsibility and a challenge for the social change sector. Younger generations motivated to address social and environmental problems must navigate profound shifts in their own lives, in their communities, and in the domains where they hope to engage.
The Contemporary Playbook for Content Marketing
November 12, 2019 By David Germano Content marketing has been on a roller coaster ride over the last 10 years as its prominence, application, successes and failings have mainstreamed. The practice of content marketing is certainly not new — not even adolescent. Marketers’ practice of creating valuable content for their audiences has been around for decades, well before the phrase “content marketing” became the official vernacular used to represent this marketing methodology.
Activity and thermal biology of Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizards (Gambelia sila) in the San Joaquin Desert of California
Because lizards are ectotherms, their life-history traits are greatly influenced by variations in thermal regimes. The Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizard (Gambelia sila) is an endangered lizard that dominates the lizard community in the San Joaquin Desert.
