The fatal airline accident level in 2025 was below the annual average for the last 10 years, but the number of individual fatalities was well above average. The principal reason for the relatively high casualty numbers – a total of 420 for the year – was that more than half of them died in a single, catastrophic crash involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 after departing Ahmedabad International airport on 12 June (see accident listings download at foot of article).
