Academic activities have been suspended for two days at the University of the Free State following violent protests which erupted at the institution's Bloemfontein campus yesterday. This comes after protestors disrupted the Varsity Cup rugby match between the UFS Shimlas and the NMMU Madibaz yesterday afternoon, Bloemfontein Courant reported.
Reactions to Premier Ace Magashule's State of the Province Address were predictably varied. Opposition parties considered the speech as nothing more than empty promises, while the ANC believe it signals good things for the province. Courant's Earl Coetzee spoke to the DA's Roy Jankielsohn, and the ANC's William Bulwane.
