Two weeks into the new year and Desmond Dass is unfortunate to have lost part of his property to a waterspout which caught Fiji’s attention last Friday as it formed out at sea in Korolevu, Nadroga. The strong winds damaged the roof of the family home, destroying the structure which is worth more than $50,000. In an interview Mr Dass said this was the first time for a natural disaster to cause extensive damage to his property.

Prominent Horsham man Ronald Marks convicted of accessing child abuse material

A prominent mentor for young people in the western Victorian town of Horsham has been sentenced for accessing child abuse material. Ronald Marks, 74, was sentenced on Wednesday for accessing the material between 2012 and 2021. Marks is a Wergaia elder known for his roles in children's cultural education programs in the Wimmera. Marks's face features in a large mural on a silo at Sheep Hills, in Victoria's wheat belt.

The future of troubled Esoteric Festival in country Victoria is uncertain unless someone volunteers to buy its parent business, along with millions of dollars of debt. The multi-day electronic music, arts and lifestyle event, outside tiny Wimmera town Donald, about 290 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, was cancelled in March this year the day before it was to start.
