G. Scott Paterson is a Toronto-based technology and media investor and board leader, best known for building companies at the intersection of capital markets, software, and digital media.
He is the Co-Founder and Executive Chair of FutureVault, a company offering a digital vault platform for the secure management of personal, financial, and enterprise documents. FutureVault operates where compliance, cybersecurity, and document intelligence converge, collaborating with family offices, professional services firms, and financial institutions. He is also an early investor in Lionsgate Entertainment Canada and remains on its Board of Directors, taking on leadership roles in audit and governance. His additional board experience includes Engagement Labs, a data and analytics firm specializing in measuring brand engagement across online and offline channels, and QYOU Media (TSXV:QYOU), a publicly-listed company focused on media content for youth audiences in India.
Paterson was born in Sarnia, Ontario, and began his career in retail brokerage. He quickly developed a reputation for discipline, persistence, and strong client results. His early time in capital markets laid the foundation for a transition to investment banking and growth-stage companies, especially in the tech and media industries. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, he became synonymous with financing and scaling businesses during times of technological growth.
Paterson later moved from traditional capital markets to company-building and board management roles. He co-founded and managed multiple tech-driven companies and remained involved beyond initial funding stages. An important venture for him included JumpTV, which he co-founded in 2005 and led through a 2006 IPO. He served as the company’s Chairman and CEO during key growth years. In 2008, JumpTV merged with NeuLion, with the transaction valued at $250 million. Under his management, the company expanded its global footprint in digital streaming for international sports leagues and completed a successful public offering in partnership with Morgan Stanley.
He also co-founded Symbility Solutions, a cloud-based software company focused on modernizing insurance claims processing. He served as Chairman for an extended period before the company was acquired by CoreLogic for C$159.5 million in 2019. The deal marks a significant exit in the Canadian insurance tech industry.
Paterson is a prolific philanthropist. He co-founded ComKids, a Toronto-based charity improving access to technology and education for children in impoverished communities. The organization’s programs provide computer and internet access and have supported thousands of families in the GTA. Paterson remains the organization’s Chairman and has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars.
His philanthropic efforts also include initiatives in education and health research. Paterson has supported Ridley College through board service, capital campaigns, and the creation of new facilities. He donated $1 million to Western University to establish the G. Scott Paterson Wing at the Schulich Medical School, citing the long-term value of research and discovery.
Paterson’s career has been recognized by various Canadian and international organizations. He was named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, received Western University’s Purple and White Award, and was recognized by Newsweek as one of its People to Watch Globally. He has been featured in publications such as Time, Maclean’s, Toronto Life, and The Globe and Mail, and had a chapter devoted to his early career in Peter C. Newman’s book Titans.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Western University, an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, and a Certificate in Entertainment Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Throughout his career, he has also pursued formal education through executive programs and professional securities designations in Canada and the U.S.
