I've been based in Yangon, Myanmar since July 2012, where I started out as features editor for The Myanmar Times. Fifteen months later, I switched to freelance journalism.
I contribute feature articles to The Bangkok Post, Mizzima and DVB, as well as assorted magazines across Asia.
I'm keen on arts, culture and society, as well as humanitarian issues, which is why I enjoy working as a stringer for the UN's IRIN's News service (which I began doing in Bangladesh several years ago).
Before Myanmar I lived in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where I worked as a special correspondent for a national newspaper called The Independent. I also married my translator. Before that I did a six month internship at The Daily Star and was accredited by the NCTJ in London as a newspaper journalist (shorthand hell etc etc!).
I've just started writing a book about the three years I spent as a journo in Bangladesh and plan to have it finished before 2015 - so that I can zone in on Myanmar's general elections!
Nonetheless I can't seem to help myself and write freelance articles for Myanmar-focused publications as often as I can
