Karen is a freelance travel and food writer. Her career started when she helped create Sassy magazine at age 20. Three years later, she left to freelance and edit at most of the top women's magazines in the US. She created a show for MTV, produced for the Jon Stewart Show, launched a show at Oxygen Media, then helped create and edit Jane magazine.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I won an internship at the local newspaper as part of a journalism award. Then I moved to Australia and began working in trade publications.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I was a founding editor and creator of Sassy magazine and we produced the first issue using typewriters.
