A Jacksonville man, charged with murder, remained in the Calhoun County Jail on Friday after a judge on Thursday scheduled a special preliminary hearing.Edward Maurice Johnson, 40, of Jacksonville, was charged with murder last month after Marion Brown, 53, of Piedmont, died at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, police said. Piedmont police found Brown bleeding and unconscious in a house in the 600 block of Draper Street around 2 a.m. after responding to a call from the house.

A White Plains man who killed his son, his daughter and her fiancé before killing himself on Thursday had previously attempted suicide, officials said on Friday.Anthony Wayne Parker, 49, took 23 blood pressure pills in July 2011 after he and his wife nearly separated, Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said. Parker’s wife filed for a protection-from-abuse-order against him, and at one point he was a suspect in violating that order but was never arrested.

Exact case matching or punctuation
If you're searching for a brand name or keyword that relies on specific punctuation marks or capitalization, you can

Use parentheses to separate multiple
boolean phrases. For example, to find journalists talking about having fun in Disney World or
Disneyland, search for ("disney world" OR disneyland) AND fun.
An asterisk can be used to search for any variation of a root word truncated by the asterisk. For example, searching for admin* will return results for administrator, administration, administer, administered, etc.
A near operator is an AND operator where you can control the distance between the words. You can vary the distance the near operation uses by adding a forward slash and number (between 0-99) such as strawberries NEAR/10 "whipped cream", which means the strawberries must exist within 10 words of "whipped cream".
