Hattiesburg Police Chief Anthony L. Parker has officially been reappointed for the the four years. The vote by City Council was unanimous. The audience literally applauded the decision.

Hattiesburg has received its recertification as a Tree City USA city, Council members were told today. A lot of work is involved in getting the certification apparently.

Mayor Toby Barker proclaimed Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day in Hattiesburg, presenting the proclamation to the AIDS Services Coalition board of directors.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a page designer for The Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss. I worked nights. I loved the job, but not the hours.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I learned to type on a manual typewriter at a summer program whenI was 8.

How is social media changing news?

Social media gives more of a sense of immediacy to news. It is also more interactive. And, mistakes are easier to make, harder to clean up.
