It's redefining both delivery and choice in news and opening up journalism to a much wider public

The English writer (and former journalist) Robert Harris

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be interested in discovery and committed to doing your best to communicate what you've learnt

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

I'm not sure about "the funniest" but I like it when journalists are honest about their mistakes and add #fail

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Short emails with specific and timely ideas.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Lots of publishing, monitoring and analytics tools - such as Tweetdeck, Social Flow and Dataminr

What's your favorite social network?

I use Twitter the most (thanks to my job) but I enjoy Instagram when I have the time

Who do you wish followed you?

I never think about that.

Why did you become a journalist?

My father was a big influence - as was my interest in the world beyond where I live

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No - but I edited my college/university paper for the politics department

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Stories that get to the heart of a conflict.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Remain inquisitive and honest at all times

Morning or evening.
