Following the flooding of the Gwydir Valley way back in 1955, far-thinking residents of Moree and districts banded together to formulate a method of warning residents of the future inundations. It was decided that a radio broadcast station was the most effective solution. In 1957, 2VM broadcast for the first time. In subsequent years 2VM has kept the residents of the Northern Inland of N.S.W. informed and entertained. And, yes! 2VM has warned, and will continue to warn its listeners of flooding, not only in the Gwydir Valley but through the Namoi and Macintyre Valleys as well. Source
