When Brandon Carr turned 16 his behaviour associated with being autistic became much more challenging. He would sometimes physically attack his parents. "He'd pull at my wife's hair, he'd scratch at me. We would always make sure his nails were cut as they could become a weapon," Brandon's father Tony explains. "Sometimes it would go on for half an hour." Brandon didn't mean to hurt anyone. He loves his family and was always remorseful, but just lacked the ability to control his behaviour.
